2009 Launceston City Council Heritage Award – Best Attention to Streetscape

description: Justin Paul sets out to create a sensual experience. Its charm lies in its unmistakably luxurious fit out. The look and feel is akin to any of Europe’s high-end boutiques, namely those found in Paris’ Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré or Milan’s Via Montenapoleone – albeit much more down to earth and inviting.

The main cue for the small scale interior takes its cue from an international fashion catwalk, a bold ‘catwalk-strip’ is laid out centrally, folding up the rear wall (dressing room door), and back along the ceiling. Beyond this central feature the design for the fashion house, while luxurious, is understated making an approachable environment. White on white walls and understated white joinery provide the blank canvas that allows the haute couture stock to become the changing experience, the desired, and the artifice.
